A Million Dollar Good-bye

I've been meaning to get this post out for, well ...forever now but life seems to be moving a little fast these days so it has slipped under things, put on the back burner, blah blah blah....

No more excuses.

We are on our way to California and so we have to say "good-bye" to our friends in the Enchanted Forest of Flagstaff. The past two weeks have been not only inspiring, but for me, also eye opening as well as having the opportunity to open my heart and mind to things that have been shut off for many years. I truly met a Soul Sister for life and I will never forget the time that was spent listening, laughing our butts off, and loving this life that too many people take for granted. This blog post is about the GOOD in good-bye. There are a few different links to this post due to the awesome friends we have and them being up on their "game" in the blog world. I hope you are able to view all of the links and can enjoy every minute as if you were there.

We hope you can join us next time!

We will never say good-bye, only see ya later...I mean, could you say good-bye to a friendship like that!? I don't think so. We are forever tethered and we are so grateful to have met such a great group of people and be able to call them, not only friends, but family.

...with a light lull in between...

The last two days have been a little different for us. Mikey left. Coffee in the morning just isn't the same without you...come back to us safe and soon brotha'!

Cafe' Convo 500

We are expecting Bryce to pop in any day now, though. That will be fun to see him...we haven't seen him since March, when we all went totally separate ways. I'm sure there will be lots of guitar practice in my near future! It'll be fun to play with someone and actually learn some stuff!

[caption id="attachment_4830" align="aligncenter" width="224"]What a Beauty! What a Beauty![/caption]

There's been more down time around here now that Mikey is gone, so not too much to blab about. However, I did get some new diggs! A groovy new shirt and some new (Bass) shoes...for FREEPretty cute too!

[caption id="attachment_4831" align="aligncenter" width="224"]Groovin' in my new diggs Groovin' in my new diggs[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_4832" align="aligncenter" width="224"]I'm the Groovy Giant! I'm the Groovy Giant![/caption]

That about wraps it up for today!

Just chillin' and waiting for B-ryce to get here...

The Weekend Wedge

Here's a little wedge of our weekend for ya...

Just about every morning, especially on the weekends, we get woken up by the "ssshhhhhhhhhhhhh" of hot air balloons over the van. I think we may be part of their fly over tour now!

Coming our way 500

New morning alarm 500

Close balloon 500

Savannah is finally chewing on the bone we bought for her almost a year ago! Well, she carries it around more than she chews on it but she's paying attention to it and that makes me happy. See, I found it in the depths of her crate the other day and saw it had not even one single bite mark on it, so I put it in a ziploc bag, poured a little bit of bbq sauce, some bacon molasses seasoning and a few squirts of water in and let it marinade for two days. Needless to say, she carries it everywhere with her now...silly girl...but it does make me happy!

Bonin' Bug 500

Miss Cheri popped in for a little lunch date. It was a nice surprise...and she brought these amazing rolls from Fry's. Oh.My.Goodness...these rolls (or whatever they were). They are considered gourmet bread, J' calls them bagels, I call them rolls, Miss Cheri calls them amazing bread...and we all call them scrumpdiddlyumptious! The bread almost looks like a big croissant and has cheese and green chiles baked into it. They are to die for, we are definitely going to have to throw these into the mix!

Cheesy Bread Babes 500

It was nice to see her and she was able to see Mikey again as well.

Hug-a-round 500

Even though most of our weekends are just like any other part of the week, it's always nice to be able to take a load off, sit down, enjoy good food, good conversation, have a few laughs and bask in the ambiance of knowing how good we have it out here. Some people think we are just wandering aimlessly through the desert and for those people, I feel sad that they don't get to experience the amazing life we have made for ourselves out here or get to meet the totally awesome people that have become like family to us. If this is wandering aimlessly through, well...anywhere...We'll take it!

Waiting Upon Arrival

About 4 out of our 7 days of the week we are woken up by loud 'whoosh' noises. One morning we rushed out of the van to catch a glimpse of the noise maker...

[caption id="attachment_4659" align="aligncenter" width="224"]Top o' the mornin'! Top o' the mornin'![/caption]

Far off balloon 500We have been hearing the noise from time to time in the early mornings but due to how our camp is situated with an awning and these great trees, it's kind of hard to see them...but today we would see them, 'shoot' them and even talk about what we were going to have for brekkie with the people in them! Pretty cool place here.

I've grown a little "concerned" with Savannah these days. She just can't seem to get comfortable no matter what she does. Poor little baby.

[gallery ids="4662,4663,4661"]

I'm sure she'll get over it due to another piece of man candy making a grand entrance from Denver tonight! Our friend, Micheal, left Denver yesterday and should be getting here any time now. We are quite excited, other than our daughter, no one has really stepped into our world of the travelling lifestyle and while we will only have a limited time together it should be super duper fun to get out and explore with him and show him what this life has to offer. He's a HUGE trail rider so I'm sure the boys will have their fun riding the trails and just being boys together.

[caption id="attachment_4671" align="aligncenter" width="350"]Down the trail already Down the trail already[/caption]

Now with him coming, it makes me want ALL of my peeps from everywhere to come be with us. The invitation is always open my lovies!!

Have you checked your calendar today??

Well, Aren't We A Talented Bunch!?!?

I noticed this morning as I was (trying) to walk Savannah, that she didn't want to go on a walk today... hmmmm. Something must be wrong! This little animal spirit of mine loves her walks. She was hobbling a little and after only walking about 15 feet from the van, doing her #1 potty she then limped back over to the van and stood outside waiting for me to open the door...weird. I thought I had done a pretty good job looking over her paw last night, after the evening walk, but maybe I hadn't. I picked her up and put her on her back in the chair, got my head-lamp out and checked her over again, even daddy did a second check. One of the gals here, Sara, is an E.M.T. and saw me checking her out and offered to wrap her foot up with some padding so she could at least try to walk on it without pain. What a nice gesture! She wrapped it up in this blue gauzey sticky tape stuff and gave me a little extra for later, in case it fell off...or she takes it off! When I put Savannah back on the ground, I'm sorry but I couldn't stop laughing.  She kept picking her foot up so far off the ground, it was almost like she was waving to everyone...poor baby!

[caption id="attachment_3455" align="aligncenter" width="225"]Gimpy Gimpy[/caption]

I think the blue tape stuff stayed on for about an hour before I was re-wrapping it...she does not like anything touching her feet...what a chore! I wrapped it back up and we went over to spend time with the ladies in another wire wrapping class. Daddy went with Bernard and Sara to town, so Savannah would be with mommy today...Girls' Day!!! I love Miss Cherry's wrapping classes, they are always entertaining and fun and you actually learn stuff! We did, what I'm going to call an Intermediate class...not basics! haha I think the other women can vouch for that! Luckily, for me, I've done quite a lot of wrapping lately so any class is just another step in the learning process. We learned some new twists and turns and loops and some other stuff that was not on the schedule, haha. Today was a much better day for wrapping then the first class, the sun was shining bright and I was definitely getting my dose of Vitamin D this afternoon! Savannah was such a good girl too, she sat the entire class in a chair next to me, looking off into the distance, waiting for daddy to come back. Even though the class was about three hours long this time around, it was great! Us ladies learned tons of new stuff, caught up on our lady time (& chocolate) and Savannah was able to rest her gimpy foot! Once J' was back with the tribe you would have never known she had an injury...I guess the downtime was needed.

To feel part of the experience, here are some pics of our wire wrapping journey...

 Pretty awesome, huh!?

After the class, everyone retreated to different areas to do different things...I came back to Joon Van to rest my eyes & brain for a bit. Staring at wire for three hours and learning new things as well is quite exhausting! J' and I visited and talked about our day, first time we've been apart for that long in a very long time! It was nice to get a little R'n'R,  for tonight was Talent Night! Yep, this R.T.R. has everything!

Talent Night consisted of a major variety of talent, it was very entertaining! The night started off with quite a few jokes...most of them J' had to repeat to me later because I couldn't hear, so I was missing out, haha. Lori sang a few of her songs and played the guitar getting everyone involved in the Chorus! Randy recited a few of his expressive and humorous poems. Laura sang us some Patriotic melodies getting everyone involved singing along...she even rocked an American flag! Lucy did an acting piece from RENT...she rocked that scene!!

A talented bunch we are

at this here, R.T.R.

A fantastical night

Let the Festivities Begin!!

It's funny to say but we are actually setting an alarm now. Truly we are people that don't lay in bed all day, but lately with the weather being so chilly and sometimes quite breezy we haven't been getting up or out of the van until it warms up...either in the van or outside or both! We figured with everyone being here together, we would all be cold together in the morning! haha So we have started setting an alarm in the morning so we can be bright eyed and bushy tailed with the rest of the gang. This morning we had a 10 a.m. meet and greet...again (I guess they had one yesterday but not everyone was really here, so another one was done this a.m.)

[caption id="attachment_3228" align="aligncenter" width="300"] R.T.R. has begun![/caption]

We circled the group with introductions and talked about the calendar of events that will take place over the next two weeks. There will be seminars, dinners, fire pits, classes and I'm sure many things will get stuck in between all of the scheduled events. Before the R.T.R. started there was talk of a "Girls Day" today...Wednesday is always Girls Day! Right Lesa!?

[caption id="attachment_3232" align="alignleft" width="150"] Matrons of the R.T.R.[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_3231" align="alignright" width="150"] Purty in Pink[/caption]

Even though there were just a few of us, it was nice to sit and chat and pamper each other. We soaked, rubbed, manicured and painted our tootsies and enjoyed one another's company. It was nice being around some lady folk again, haha! Every girl in this world needs another girl to connect with. One of the ladies, Trisha, sat with me and taught me the basics of crochet and even sat with me and walked me through chains and hooks and all kinds of stuff. It was so nice of her to sit and be so patient with me, I get super frustrated at things that seem like they should be so simple. I was reminded again and again that everyone does this differently and learns at a different pace...soooo Woooo-saaaaaa! haha I'm sure that within time and practice I'll be hooking in no time...er, maybe I should rephrase that! And while we were having our girl-fest, a couple of the boys (mine included) fixed up Lesa's back windows for her to be warm at night now!

[caption id="attachment_3229" align="alignleft" width="150"] Beginners Course[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_3230" align="alignright" width="150"] Helping Hands[/caption]

Everyone is pretty great here, everyone helps each other out and it's totally not a big deal....makes you wonder, "If everyone treated life this way, there wouldn't be much to complain or get angry about!"

We finished up with our girl time right around the same time everyone was getting ready to go for the evening walk. I would stay back...I needed to recapture some of my energy. J' went with everyone else leaving me and my O.C.D. to fight for the Championship Belt, due to what he left behind!

[caption id="attachment_3234" align="aligncenter" width="300"] ...and breathe...[/caption]

He really meant well at the beginning of all of this (and he can't help that I have an organization, cleanliness disorder). The plan/goal was to take everything off the top and out of the back of Joon Van to see what we actually have up there and possibly get rid of some stuff. He was in full force of attacking this goal but as the day went on more and more people wanted to catch up, say hi, meet and so on, so whatever was on-top or in the back was now lying on the ground in three different piles. I came back from Girl-fest 2013, he left for a walk and there I stood...staring at all of our stuff...on the ground. It truly isn't a big deal, but my O.C.D. just threw its gloves off and is ready to rumble 'raw-style'! I finally gathered everything into one big pile and when J' got back from the walk, he covered it with the tarp to 'make it go away'. Yep, he gets me! haha And everything will be put away tomorrow...it has to be, we are about to get some pretty nasty weather.

Before going over to the fire pit, we cooked up some bacon and cheese sammies with mashed taters and our new friend, Bernie, brought over some mac'n'cheese. We had a feast! I'm glad J' is getting to meet some pretty cool dudes out here...among the ones we already know!

[caption id="attachment_3235" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Master Chef[/caption]

Not too many people were at the fire tonight...a little too chilly maybe!? I was able to converse with an old friend, Micheal and create a new friendship with Brady. We're all hoping that the weather gets better/warmer...even if it just got a few degrees warmer it would be easier to hang out a little while longer. For now though, we are back in the van with our Mr. Buddy Heater (that we love so much) on...don't know how we would get through the chilly nights without it. If you are thinking about whether to get a heater or not...just get it. We thought we would never use it and we have been using it on the daily...you just never know when weather isn't going to go your way!

Stay warm my friends...find a cute guy or gal to snuggle with or a fuzzy lil critter or just a super awesome blankie if nothing else!

[caption id="attachment_3236" align="aligncenter" width="150"] She found her bowl![/caption]

PEACE

P.S. J' is feeling much better...thanks for all the good juju!

A new way to get high!

We woke up to quite a beautiful day. I mean it is a New Year and everything...maybe that had something to do with it!?

I got out of the van to walk Savannah and as I walked, I started seeing remnants of our late night party. As I crept closer to the fire pit, I was appreciating more and more that I did not indulge in the adult beverages floating around last night. This place looked like a REALLY good time was had by all, and as this was true, I was also very happy that I could enjoy today without a headache/hangover!

There is still a bit of a chill in the air with a slight breeze...what a wonderful day to fly a kite! Bryce had been talking his talk about his kite for a few days now...time to walk the walk my friend! Bryce brought out his hippy kite...tie dye of course. Since it was pretty breezy outside, he & Mike had to untangle it and they worked on it like the kite professionals they are! Very soon after, Bryce caught the wind underneath it and voila, he was flying his kite in less than a minute.

[caption id="attachment_3094" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Master of the Kite[/caption]

We all had our time with the kite. I haven't flown a kite since I was probably about age 9 or 10 and it truly is one of the most freeing, kid-like things I've done in a while. You can feel the wind, not only on your face and body but pulling the fabric around the sky, pulling your arms ever so slightly from side to side and pulling your lips into a smile on your face. It was very enjoyable and great for the soul. If we had enough room to store a kite, I would definitely get one, but in this rig it would probably get damaged 5 seconds after it was bought. I may just have to find a space for one though! hee hee

[caption id="attachment_3095" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Getting High[/caption]

After everyone got a shot at 'Flying High', we ended up congregating around the fire pit once again. There's nothing like a fire in the middle of a beautiful chilly day...just chillin' out, taking in the New Year in the middle of the desert!

[caption id="attachment_3096" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Snuggle Bug[/caption]

The day flittered away little by little but it was nice just taking it easy and hanging out. We left the bed down all day so when we wanted to come in and take a (bigger) load off, we would come in and lay down and watch the tele here and there and then go back and hang out. Goodness, do I LOVE having that bed down! haha It really is something we would love to have: A bed that can be down all day BUT also be able to move around the 'cabin' without being totally consumed by the bed...one day. It's not that we lay in bed all day, but when you want to lay down, take a nap or you just aren't feeling your best, it's nice to be able to just lay down and not work for 20 minutes to move everything around to be able to roll it out to lay down. The little things people!

[caption id="attachment_3097" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Lazy Day[/caption]

When the sun started setting, we both were not in the mood to cook so we ended the first day of 2013 with Wendy's. It's the closest 'fast food' and that's exactly what we needed at the time. It was actually pretty good as well... that rarely happens! I think for the start of this new year, it didn't start or end too shabby. We were able to be in good company with funny conversations & stories, we got "high" with the peace kite and had a nice day of 'recovery'.

I hope you had a great first day of the New Year and I wish you the best in 2013. Shine your brightest. Think the highest. Unbutton your jeans that are the tightest!

Bringing in the New Year, baby!

Hey to all my peeps out there...

The Year 2013 is among us! Did you think we'd ever make it? Did you think you would ever make it? It's a bit crazy to us actually, but we are here and so are you...it's like a party! Whoop whoop! I hope everyone brought in the New Year safely, festively and happily. We brought in the New Year in the middle of the desert, something new to us, and it was a night full of laughter, dancing, good food and LOTS of fire!

"The Man Camp" invited everyone over for the New Years Festivities. During the day Sayward and I had a small girls' day, running errands and shopping for the big night. We got an assortment of drinks for the whole camp along with some snackies. As the sun started setting, we drove over to "Camp Ironwood", no sense in walking when we can just move "our house" and have everything right there. There was definitely a joyful festive vibe in the air. We sat around the campfire, swapped stories, ate our snacks, downed some beverages (some adult, some more tame) and just had a great time.

[caption id="attachment_3062" align="alignleft" width="150"] All smiles[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_3063" align="alignright" width="150"] Da Boyz[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_3064" align="aligncenter" width="150"] Hello![/caption]

A little further into the night, the title of "Fire Keeper" started turning into different people...then The Fire Keeper 'War' was born. It was quite the fire experience, you really had to be there. At the end of the "War", we ended up with a small bonfire, but it sure did keep us warm! Say & Kevin ended up going to get more wood in the middle of everything, in the dark...they were determined and successful! The funny thing about a fire...everyone has to be involved, everyone wants to have a part. I just like the warmth, haha...so thank you fire keepers!

[caption id="attachment_3066" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Feel the Burn[/caption]

About ten minutes or so after the Wood Crew came back, we were counting down to midnight...counting down to a new year, to new stories, new memories, new friends. Almost time to close the book of 2012 and open the new book of 2013...

It was a great night had by all. With new friends and old friends, good music, a campfire that ended up as a bonfire, a bit of crazy conversation and everything else in between...what else could a human ask for in the celebration of our lives!?

We finally pulled ourselves away around 2 a.m. I was surprised I hung in there that long. I was ready for bed about 2 minutes after midnight...actually well before that, but I was coaxed into staying by the warm fire a little while longer. We got into Joon Van and snuggled in for the night...it was just about 40 degrees, brrzies & freezies.

[caption id="attachment_3087" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Excited...for bed![/caption]

No matter what you did...or didn't do tonight, I hope you are excited about 2013. There is so much to learn, to experience, to create, to imagine, to dream, to do. So, let's do it...all of it. Lay it all out on the table. Turn your dreams into  a vivid reality.

Believe.

I'm stoked about our new year...and the best part is we get to journey through it together...woo hoo!

C'mon and get stoked with me!

Happy New Year, I love ya'll!

Just call us Party Central!

Wow, we just can't get over the fact that we are mobile once again! We had talked about what we were going to do once Joon was fixed...we will go, we will drive, we will see new things...BUT we had made some plans to spend some time with Wayne first...then we will roll on outta here! Today is Sunday though and you know what that means for this rig...football.

[caption id="attachment_1931" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Sleeping...and she just woke up![/caption]

We sat and watched a few games while messing around on the computers: researching our next journey & sleepy spots. We even got some showers in! Yep, we are having the weekend of a lifetime here, folks! haha

Around 3 p.m. we had a much anticipated visitor roll up to Joon Van...BOB! He had some business in Pahrump, so we were more than happy to have him come camp with us for a night or two. He has also purchased a van since we last saw each other, so he was able to test it out on the drive.

[caption id="attachment_1932" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Here he comes![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1933" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Who dat?[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1940" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The boys are here![/caption]

It's always so nice to see familiar faces, especially in this lifestyle. It's nice to be on your own, roam freely & independently but when you see those smiling faces, a big warm fuzzy feeling comes over you and it's just great! Oh, and it was so cool to see Homer again too...I just love that pup!

[caption id="attachment_1934" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Good Ole' Boy[/caption]

We talked for a couple of hours and then Bob took a walk, I'm sure he was longing for...he and Pahrump have quite the history. The sun was starting to set and the Full Moon is tomorrow so you know I got some great pictures. Like you all know, I'm a sucker for Full Moons!

[caption id="attachment_1935" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Vandwellers Unite![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1936" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Hello Beautiful[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1937" align="aligncenter" width="300"] I'm a Mooner![/caption]

So, it may seem like it wasn't a very eventful day, but it was a great day indeed! We always love Bob's company, it was great to visit with him for a while and see Homer. We will probably see him again tomorrow before he heads back to where he and his group are camping in Victorville. We have a lot of stuff to square away in the morning before heading over to Wayne's for dinner in the early evening...should be some good eats!

Until then my friends, we'll catch ya on the flip side yo!

PEACE

3 Mechanics: 2 Babes: 1 Rig

Woke up this morning to a big Hallelujah!! The torsion bar is in. Everybody scream....ahhhhhh!!!!! Very excited, J' was off to get it before I even had the bed made. It's going to be a big day! J' walked down to Wayne's to chatty Cathy it up before going to the mail place. The two boys went down to get the part but it wasn't in yet, so they came back to our rig for a bit, taking parts of the van off to get it ready for the big day.

[caption id="attachment_1912" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Getting Joon ready[/caption]

Since it is Saturday, we only had about an hour and a half window before they closed, so we had all our fingers & toes crossed hoping it would get there before that happened. About 25 minutes later, the boys were back in Gigi (Wayne's truck) to get the torsion bar...it will be there this time!

And...it was!

[caption id="attachment_1913" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Longer & Better than the old one![/caption]

J' had a lot of work cut out for him for the day...I try to help but always just end up getting in the way so he lets me sit and take pictures and keep an eye on the 'Bug! Hooray, haha.

[caption id="attachment_1915" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Working Hard & Hardly Working...what a pair![/caption]

J' decided to put the shackles on today too, since we had the rig pulled apart. Also very helpful, was Wayne with his 20 different kinds of jacks...it would have been hell trying to do all of this without those things.

[caption id="attachment_1914" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Jacked up![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1916" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Rusty Shackleford[/caption]

Around 3 p.m. or so, J' started back working on the torsion bar...the shackles took a bit of time, just then we had another visitor approach camp! Looked like we were having a Pit Crew Party! haha Our newest friend, Jim, was coming to say good-bye....little did he know he was about to get down, dirty and closer to the action than he probably wanted!

[caption id="attachment_1917" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Pit Crew Partay[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1918" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Next time, he'll call before coming over, haha[/caption]

Jim was pretty handy with giving J' a big hand under and on top of the van, along with having some wooden boards for the jacks. We were very fortunate today...not only for the part coming in on time, but for good friends that stop everything they are doing to help a couple of "crazy kids" out, like ourselves! A HUGE THANK YOU TO WAYNE & JIM for being selfless, thoughtful and so very helpful today. We really couldn't have done half of what we did today without you.

We finished up with everything right around sunset! Woo Hoo!! After everyone left, we loaded everything up into Joon...only took an astonishing 20 minutes, instead of the hours and days in Shaver Lake, and headed out to see how she rolled and get a bite to eat...for celebration of course! You really don't know how great it feels to have wheels rolling underneath you until you're immobile for 10 days...it's quite the feeling! We went straight to Little Caesar's Pizza for a $5.00 Pepperoni Pizza and chowed down right there in the parking lot. It was definitely the best pizza we had all day! What a great day, a great feeling and great friends! Our bellies are full now and we can go anywhere we want...it feels good to be free again!

Have you freed yourself today?

PEACE
