Two very different visitors

Very surprised to wake up today and not be the least bit sore. I guess I'm not in as bad of shape as I thought. I definitely need to get my butt in gear on some fitness but walking 9 miles and no sore muscles, I'll take it any day of the week! My babaa' surprised me with something new for my belly for breakfast this morning... a really big Peach. Although it was no Takahashi Fruit Stand Peach, it was still better than that boring oatmeal we have every morning. Thanks babe!

I started breaking out too, out of nowhere...not too happy about that, probably just these hormones...oh well. It was such a nice day that we let Nana' out on her tether for the day and of course after hunting for a little bit, she finds the only soft thing in the desert. She's such a funny little spirit!

[caption id="attachment_1902" align="aligncenter" width="300"] What a softy[/caption]

It didn't take her long to find something very interesting though! She kept growling, squeaking, and making noises...I just thought she was trying to get those poor ground squirrels, that like to taunt her. I checked on her a few times looking out into the desert and seeing nothing. The last time I went out to check on what was getting her so excited, I actually got down on her level to see what the hubbub was all about. That's when I yelled to J'..."You have got to come see this, this is freakin' awesome!!" I was ecstatic, you would have thought my head was going to pop off. We were finally getting to witness a Desert Tortoise! He was rad, man!

[caption id="attachment_1905" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The Face-off[/caption]

I wanted to let Savannah off of her leash, but I thought she might hurt the little fella' so on her tether she stayed, crying and whining..."but Mom!" I took only about a hundred pics of the lil dude, he was just so cool. I only stopped because I thought I might be stressing him out, so away I went and watched from afar as he walked only about 3 feet to stop and eat some vegetation. I finally came in from the heat and looked back out about 20 minutes later and Mr. Peter the Peace Turtle was gone. He was so cool!

The sun was starting to set on our very "cool" but hot day as I heard a truck approaching. I looked out of the window and saw a Ranger truck turning into our site. This would be the infamous Ranger we've been hearing about, that's been on vacation...alright here we go!

He got out of his truck and walked up to the van, we had our curtains (on the outside) drawn because of how the sun hits us at this time of the day...so I think he was a little leery of us at first. I put Savannah in her crate and we got out to talk to him. He asked us some questions which we answered pretty truthfully and he ran our I.D.'s. We thought we might get the third degree from him, from everything we had heard, but it turns out he wasn't out for blood! We talked to him about our torsion bar snapping and it seemed like he was more ready to get home than anything. He turned out to be a pretty nice guy actually. He even posed for a picture!

[caption id="attachment_1908" align="aligncenter" width="300"] J' & Ranger Nalen[/caption]

Now that the "visit" is out of the way and he knows our situation, we really don't feel rushed to get out of here so it takes a little bit of pressure off of our situation. That's always a nice feeling. Hopefully the torsion bar will be in, in the next day or two and we will be back on the road like it never happened.

Stay tuned for the next adventure, for wherever we go there shall be a handful of them!

PEACE

  1. It's November 3rd and getting VERY CHILLY here in New Hampshire! I have spent the last few days reading your blog (I love love love it!) from your first entry through to October 26th. Have I mentioned that I love your blog? It is awesome to read about your journey/adventure from a woman's point of view, I love your sense of humor and your free spirit (you remind me of me except I'm like almost 20 years older than you), and the photos are amazingly awesome! My hubby and I are thinking about getting a van and maybe heading out west to California for a month or so to see if we love the lifestyle......I'm pretty certain we will. Our home is up for sale but with the economy the way it is, we might just close it up the end of December and spend a few months traveling. Reading your blog and seeing the landscape out there makes me not want to wait much longer! I look forward to your future blog posts and hope you guys get the van fixed and ready to roam again! You guys rock! ~ Cheryl

  2. Hey Kalani, I absolutely love the pictures of that tortoise. HOW COOL!!!! Especially since I get to see them in their actual size and I can see pretty much every detail of that baby. <3 Also, that ranger really looks intimidating. Lol. I guess that's what a ranger needs to look like.

Well, I'm glad you guys are getting everything back in order. Can't wait to see where tomorrow leads you. I know it will be wonderful.

Much luck to you three and stay "YOU".

    Peace and smile.

  3. Thanks Martha, I was thinking of you this morning and I got on my computer and poof... there you are! I have so many pics of that lil dude, he was super cool. Glad you enjoyed! I'm all over the animals, I kind of feel bad bc I feel like I'm stressing them out so I have to back off sometimes but they are just so cool. I can't seem to get over the fact that these animal spirits are just wandering out here through the world, doing their thing. It truly amazes me every time I see an animal in the wild! Hope things are cool on your end and those dreams are starting to become a vivid reality!

  4. Thanks for reading Cheryl. We have had quite the adventures over the last week, so I'm trying to catch up on posts still....haha Did you guys get any of that horrible storm? I hope not, so sad. Like your "trip" to California, we did the same, as you know, in January in Florida, turns out I liked it more than the hubs thought I would, actually wanted to go for another month but due to still having jobs we had to go back, booooo...but here we are! It's been one of the most wonderful, eye-opening things I've ever done in my life. There are of course things that will get under your skin, stress you out and piss you off but it's still real life and that stuff happens... Every day is a learning experience for attitudes, moods and enlightenment! haha We are definitely seeing things we have both never experienced before and some things we have done before but being in a van it definitely puts a whole new spin on things...stay posted for the beginning of November posts! Thank you again for reading from beginning to now, it means the world to me! I will put you in my best juju for you to be able to do what you want to do with traveling and maybe we'll even get to see you in Quartzsite, Arizona for the R.T.R. in January????? That would be radtastic my love!
Much Peace & Love to you and yours

  5. Hi Kalani! We got high winds and alot of rain here in southern NH but we dodged a bullet with that storm. I feel so bad for the folks in NY and NJ........some areas down there are still without power and a nor'easter is heading our way this week. Night time temps are in the 30's and without power they have no heat! I pray they get all tehe help they need very soon! Great to see that you guys are rollin' again! We are currently looking into getting a conversion van which we can use as a regular vehicle here at home. Our plan right now is to buy a van and go to Florida in January for 4-6 weeks. We can't leave until after Christmas. We have to be back in NH like the third week in February so heading south for a bit will work better for us. We go to look at a van tomorrow afternoon.....I Pray it's what we're looking for! I may need to "pick your brain" about your Florida trip because we want to be well informed on boondocking locations and it looks like you guys did alot of that when you were there. I'm getting so psyched already......I just want to go! Thanks for sending good vibes our way.! Time to read your latest post. Peace & love rigt back at ya'!

  6. You can pick my brain all you want, especially about Florida. It was the toughest place we've stayed yet, but doable! We were in Florida for 32 days and I think we only paid 4 days out of them all, not because we had to either, because there were places we wanted to stay. Let me know about your van viewing today...looking forward to hearing all about it!

  7. Awww. Thanks for thinking of me. Lol. :-) I was just thinking about the tortoise and how it's similar to RVer's, lol. They too travel with their homes from place to place. They should be the main mascott for the RV World. And yes, I would also just be absolutely fascinated with the animals in the wild. I always think how they make everyday happen and seem just so happy, doing their thing.

    Peace :-)
