Bellyful of Brekkie

Some people think living the way we do, we can't enjoy the 'finer things in life'. Say, for example, your friends on a Sunday morning... gathering to eat a breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage, bacon, mimosas and waffles...yes, I said waffles!
Well, we like to break those myths and run free with the crazy idea that you can enjoy whatever you like out here or anywhere.

Our good friend, "Papi", likes to have everyone over for a brekkie here and there. Most of us have 'jobs'. I was such a good sausage flipper last time, I got rehired! Debra had the duty of scrambling eggs, some with onion, most without. Judy did a yummy job on grilling up those onions too.

Breakfast with a view!

My sausage station with Miss Debra scrambling the eggs

Fred was on stand-by in case either one of us needed help.

Checking the internal temperature of the sausage! haha

I think it was Doria & Dan who fried up the bacon. Papi made the waffles with his waffle iron (running off his generator),

Bob brought some toppings & fruit for the waffles and Will brought and made mimosas!

Keeping the sausage flipper hydrated!

Everyone brought something or made something, it turned out to be one awesome breakfast!!
It's always nice to have everyone in camp get together for something like this, we tend to get spread out and spend weeks around each other but never really get to know anyone! Funny, but that's how it goes in a big camp.

"I sense trouble" (that's what Mike is saying to me!)

When we have small gatherings like this, we can mingle and meet new people that may not be parked near or around us. It also has a nice family feel to it, since this is our road family~ our tribe, it's a good time and good eatin'!

The most quiet you'll ever hear us...while we're eating!

Another delicious and satisfying gathering of the tribe!
No left-overs today. Only smiles!

Silly Times at Silly Al's

At least once a year, while in Quartzsite, we try to make it to Silly Al's...a super yummy restaurant that serves really great pizza among other Italian dishes of lasagna and spaghetti.
This time around, we've made it here twice!

The first time we went was on a whim and it turned out to be a silly night of fun with our new friend, Debra. (Debra's Blog)
We shared a large pizza (14") and a couple of beers.

Silly Al's is a restaurant but they also have karaoke and dancing on certain nights of the week.
Right when we were finishing up with dinner they started up karaoke. It had been such a long time and karaoke used to be one of my favorite things to do many years ago, so Debra and I signed up...Debra needed a little coaxing but she went with it and we had a great time singing.
I sang Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt, for the first time ever in public! Everyone was so nice afterward and applauded me with love...it's a hard one.

Catching my breath

Debra ended up singing Mama by The Judd's even though she asked for Grandpa...she was great and everyone showed their support with applause.

She even got people to dance

We ran into another new friend, Dean, who is also part of the metal detecting club.

A nice man named Sonny, fell in love with Debra and asked her for a dance to Lady in Red. It was so cute...Debra's still got it!

The second time around our friend, Mike, invited everyone in camp out for dinner and that turned into one of the most fun nights we've had in a while.
(Sorry for the poor photo quality)

Even Bob & Judy made it!!!

We had a couple of guys from France, Lars & Michel, that flew in to film people in our camp for a few days, they came to dinner, too!

It was a great time. After dinner, we lost about half of the group to bedtime, so we moved over to a smaller table where we could see the dance floor. I was #10 on the list for karaoke and Mr. Will was #12.
The first song I sang was 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton, Will sang Born in the USA by Springsteen. Everyone (that was left) got up on the dance floor and kicked around some moves, it seems like we all had a blast! The guys moved over to shoot a few games of pool, while the rest of us talked, danced, and sang.

I ended up singing a couple more songs, even getting asked to sing a duet with Whistler (a local), just having a good time with everyone around. It really was a great "ending" to a good year with so many wonderful friends we get to meet on the road. It was nice meeting Lars & Michel, we hope to see them again very soon....maybe in January!

You just never know what one can get themselves into, out here in the desert. Seems we've found a fun lil' gathering place for the Winter that fits everyone's needs.
Thank you Mike, it was certainly a night to remember!

Hunting for Treasure

At one time or another, during a conversation out here, prospecting is bound to come up. This past year we have met many people that have the "Gold Hunting" buzz, most of them having metal detectors of their own. On a Saturday while working on Ray's brakes, the guys went into town to get parts and stopped off at a Mining-Prospecting store. Jamie came back with lots of great information and wanted to join the club so a few days later went back and did just that. He paid $20 for the whole year, so he's good until December 2016! When he became a member, he received a Member pin, a club card, a map to the mines that the club members are allowed to prospect at and he will receive discounts on the hunts they hold.
The first hunt of the season was this past Saturday.

We didn't know what to expect; will there be 15 people there or way more? We thought we'd arrive at least a half hour early to register as well as getting a feel for what was going to happen during the hunt. We drove in and were stunned at how many people were there. We saw ladies selling homemade things, people hanging out by the coffee dispensers, sitting around talking and laughing, people were walking around getting their detectors just right...there were people everywhere!

The hunt started right at 1:00 p.m. Charlie starts it off with a small pep talk as well as stating the rules. Everyone lines up around the perimeter of the field, registration tags get checked, then a horn is blown and they take off! People that do not do the hunt, hide 15,000 coins and 36 tokens (only 5 tokens per person). The tokens get turned in at the end of the hunt for prizes.

These ladies stayed near the perimeter line and were finding stuff left and right!

He was a great hunter!

Jamie digging up treasure!

Dean found some good stuff!
What a beautiful place to spend time hunting for treasure

You get to detect and hunt for one hour, then they blow the horn and everyone comes in with their findings!

Mr. Krandall's treasure

My babaa' got his hunt on!

After the hunt is over you get to keep whatever you find; Quarters, Nickels, Dimes. If you found any tokens, you turn them into the smiling ladies at the main table and they give you your prize! Prizes this time around were little nuggets of Gold (yes, real Gold), old Silver coins & one lucky guy won a metal detector!!

The beauty of the hunt

Our new friend, Tom. Tom got a gold nugget for finding a token.

Everyone hanging out to see who got what!

We met Charlie Weinheimer, Quartzsites' Metal Detecting President & Huntmaster. He was a great tipster and a pretty funny guy, just click the video link below to get your Charlie fill and see what the hunt is all about!

Charlie & Joe Wallingford (Vice President) told us that this is the smallest hunt of the season...there were 100 people there! The biggest hunt of the season is January with 200-250 people hunting, the prizes also get bigger and better!
We are thinking about getting a detector for me too, but we'll have to see how it goes...we're still saving up our monies for a guitar!
It really was a fun time. I went out after everyone left and found a Quarter and three Dimes! It is a fun little hobby and who knows, we may find something a lot bigger than coin change!

Quartzsite: Historical Hi Jolly Tomb

I had so much fun finding and walking through Celia's Rainbow Garden that I sought out more "hidden" gems in and around Quartzsite.
I had always wanted to see Hi Jolly's Tomb so that was my next stop.

There is a lot of history related with Quartzsite and Hi Jolly, his real name was Hadji Ali but people couldn't pronounce it so Hi Jolly became what he was known as. In 1856 he became one of the first camel drivers ever hired by the US Army to lead the camel driver experiment in the Southwest.

We've seen wild burros where we camp but seeing a camel would be so totally cool! I'm still on the lookout!

The Tomb is really neat, I love the way the builders put the different stones in place, I'm pretty sure the blue stone is Sodalite, a stone of truth.

I was there!

The cemetery is HUGE, so I didn't walk around it as much as I would have liked to but at this point in the day, it was time for me to start making my way back home. I had walked in my motorcycle boots for hours at this point and my feet were ready to call it a day!

But on my way out of the park I saw something I hadn't seen on my way in...and they were just too awesome to not stop and 'shoot'!

I am not sure why the planes are here, I researched and read and tried to find some kind of an answer but didn't really find anything. I also noticed when I was walking around Celia's Garden, almost everyone in there was a veteran and they also have a RC Flyers club in the park. Any way ya slice it, they're cool!
I am loving my lil scooter even if it's not very pretty right now (my muffler fell off). I am getting to do so much more than the past few years have allowed and it's just so much fun. I'm sure more historical hunts will be in my near future...until then
PEACE
