Beaches, Boardwalk & Barc Parc Oh My!

Night one in Myrtle Beach was very successful. The weather is so nice here we didn't even need a fan to sleep during the night. We woke up around 7:45a.m. I walked The Bug (Savannah) & then J' & I walked around Wal-mart looking for a few new items for "van-eating" that don't deal with boiling water or huge clean-up. We found some packets of premade Tuna for easy-to-make sammy's, some bars; yogurt, granola, protein & the like (stuff that won't melt in the heat), and some premade chicken salad with crackers. When we left Wal-mart, we drove over to the Ross parking lot just next door to eat breakfast. We were stopping in Ross anyway to look for swim suits so it was the perfect plan. I think they even opened early for us because they saw us sitting there eating haha. Turns out they weren't good for anything other than their bathrooms ~ Ugly suits, for my taste, and way too much for what I was looking for...yep, a ganga! We figured it was time to get our "party" started, so we pointed Joon to the Grand Strand. The Wal-mart we stayed at was only about 3 miles away, so we arrived in no time! We found a great spot right off Main Street, in the shade. It was metered parking which worked out great for us. It was only about 10 a.m. so it was awesome outside. We put the shades up in the front, pulled them down in the back, watered up The Bug, turned her fan on and off we went to the Boardwalk. We parked at Ripley's Believe it or Not, right on the main corner, so from there we took a left onto the main street to take in all of the sights. We were there before a lot of the stores opened for the day so we soaked up some sun and walked down to Pier 14.

We walked in to use the restroom and ended up paying the $1.00 fee per person to walk all the way to the end of the pier. It was cool to walk out there and see the beach, the boardwalk and everything going on from that point of view. We stayed out there for about 40 minutes. They have little wooden benches that sit up high so you can see over the railing- probably more for the fishermen than anyone, but it was still nice to hang out here for a bit.

While sitting there, I noticed something floating in the water, I said to J', "Look, a hamburger!" We both stared at it for a minute and he finally said, "That's a jellyfish...maybe the jellyfish ate a hamburger!" haha We must have watched that poor jellyfish trying to get back out to sea for a good 6-7 minutes. I don't think it ever made any progress, poor Jelly Felly!

[caption id="attachment_1578" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Jelly Hamburguesa??[/caption]

After the pier we made our way into some shops, especially an oldie shop called the Gay Dolphin that J' & his sister used to frequent as kids. Now, let me tell you~ if you are a knick knack whore, this place has your name written ALL over it!! There is crap, er...items for purchase everywhere, even on the ceiling, no joke man. Believe me if you can think of it, it's there. You may have to search the FOUR cluttered, filled to the brim floors for it, but I'm sure you will find it...or maybe you won't but it will be an advneture trying. I'm sure you're bound to walk out with something! If we had a place to put it I would have bought myself a dragon, I Loooooooove me some dragons!!! And they had a ton of them, but we don't have the room and I'm sure J' loved that fact, haha.

[caption id="attachment_1580" align="aligncenter" width="300"] So tacky, yet so pretty[/caption]

Back on the "Strand", more pictures were taken, bathing suits were looked at, a sticker was bought (that we now cannot find), and LOTS more walking was done. Since my hormones woke up craving pizza, we stopped for a slice @ NY Pizza and a large COLD coke. It hit the spot for sure and used up our limit of "EOM" (Eat out meals) for the day, but it was worth it and my craving was satisfied. Walking back to Joon, I ducked in one more store to find a Ganga on a suit and I finally found one~ hooray! Now I have an 'out of shape suit' until my butt can fit into the one I usually wear, woo hoo! Time to go discover some other parts of Myrtle Beach...

[caption id="attachment_1581" align="aligncenter" width="300"] I actually think this sign would be under water if there was a Tsunami but at least they tell you how to get away from it, duh![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1583" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Look Mom! Black-eyed Susans... I remembered![/caption]

We visited a campground J' used to vacation at as a youngin'. He showed me things that were new and things that haven't changed, we walked into the arcade he spent many a summer day in and I even saw the spot where he won a break dancing contest...that's my guy!!

We walked the beach and I found my very first shark's tooth, which I lost very shortly after due to a hole in my pocket, rats!

We even took a "tour" of their bath house, if you know what I mean! haha After some good reminiscing, we found a beautiful dog park with an amazingly clean lake and a few acres of land for Nana to run, fetch and swim. She actually learned how to fetch her very first ball in water. At first, she swam out to it and tried to force it back with her face and neck, then she tired & turned back...mommy fetched that ball (thank god the water was so clean!) She learned she had to open her mouth, get the ball, then swim back. She proceeded to come back, drop the ball in sand and from there her girliness came out. She pawed at the ball trying to get a "clean" spot (it was covered in sand) and every time she put her mouth around it to pick it up, she would just drop it & sneeze, as if the ball had hot sauce on it or something. She did this about 6 or 7 times until she gave up and mommy washed it off so she could have it again. She isn't spoiled at all, haha. She's just the cutest thing ever!! We ran her crazy for a good hour or so until she decided she had had enough, to the point of digging a hole and putting the ball in it to hide it. She's no dummy!

From here, we found the closest mall, parked, took care of some things; work, phone calls, etc. & got a tip of something to do from Liza, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Within 15 minutes we were fully engulfed in Broadway at the Beach. There were people everywhere, music coming from all areas, shopping, restaurants, bars, cafes, boats whizzing across the lake in the middle of it all, hungry fish, screaming kids, tired parents, dancing in the streets, nostalgia rides from the pavilion, the smells of popcorn, ice cream and cotton candy...talk about sensory overload!

It certainly was a fun way to realize we are doing something completely different with our lives now. I've never been more at Peace.

First day/night. Check.

Left Liza's exactly at 9:00 a.m., felt like we were taking back roads all the way to Myrtle Beach (our first planned destination), but finally the GPS put us on I-20. We stopped at a "Myrtle Beach" Visitor Center, 55 miles away from the actual beach, but we walked away with four different coupon books and a huge map.

[caption id="attachment_1605" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Welcome to 55 miles away from Myrtle Beach[/caption]

We pointed ourselves in the right direction (same direction we were going) and about an hour/hour & a half later with traffic we arrived on Main St., right at the heart of Myrtle Beach. Even though we were both "hungry sick", tired & a bit irritated due to being hungry and tired, we 'celebrated' with a little Lloyd Price with Stagger Lee, my ultimate SHAG song. We drove The Grand Strand and looked at all of the shops, hotels and people. Once we got to a certain spot on the strip we pulled off and stopped at the first food we saw which happened to be Hardee's (J's fave).

**SIDENOTE:We are trying not to spend money on food on an on-going basis, like fast-food or any other kind of eating out. We are more trying to eat the food we brought with us first, then we'll grocery shop and find better/easier ways of eating from there. It's just so much easier to open a granola bar, protein bar or make a quick (premade) sandwich than to get out several things, boil water & have several things to clean afterward, just to eat a snack or meal. These easier meals will also help us keep food costs down. We are giving ourselves a $10.00 a day (eating out) food allowance, so we can have a little fun on the run!**

Even though we are soo tired, we thought it would be nice to do a quick walk on the beach, after all it was after 5p.m. so Savannah could come with us. Myrtle Beach allows you to have dogs on the beach before 10 a.m. & after 5 p.m. I love having her on the beach with us, it just feels so much more right! After our beach walk and with us being so tired (but now with full bellies), we decided to find a Wal-mart so we could nap for a bit. There are quite a few Wal-marts around and none, that we saw, have No Parking Overnight signs~ so we found a good spot, parked and pulled out the bed.

[caption id="attachment_1608" align="aligncenter" width="300"] 2 girls in 1 bed, every mans dream![/caption]

It was a little warm, not too bad, but we plugged our fan into the GZ battery and hit the hay. We slept for a solid hour and a half. When we woke up, we got our TV out (a cool 9 inch Phillips with antennae aka Lil Phil), found some channels and just vegged for a couple of hours. We fell back asleep around 10:30 p.m. or so. It was a pretty peaceful night. No one bothered us and the bed held air all night.

Night one = Success.

Quick note

Quick note for anyone reading this...is anyone even reading this? :) Please be patient with my posts due to us sometimes having internet and sometimes not as well as the signal strength we have. Some posts may go up quicker due to no pictures but I LOVE to add pics into the posts because I think it just brings it all to life for you...is anyone out there? I am doing video BUT it's super hard to download them with the data I have to use, so I may be waiting on the video for a while until we find a rainy day to sit at Barnes & Noble or Books a Million or something like that.

Alright, well I hope you are enjoying our journey so far. There have been few downs with more ups but I guess you get that with anything you do.

Keep us in your best juju thoughts and keep the love in your hearts for us.

Fro...no mo'!!

Today, I'm doing something I thought I wouldn't do for many more years. I'm going to get my hairs-cut. Not just a trim though, like a full on hairs-cut! (Yes, I say hairs-cut because I gets lots of hairs cut, not just one!!! haha) I think it's about time to get this fro under control. I am constantly pulling it back into a ponytail, into a braid, or out of my mouth, etc breaking the middle and the ends and bitching about it... so, it is time. I don't really even know what I want but I know that I want quite a few inches taken off. I found a stylist through a website called Kudzu.com, they had about 60 reviews of this salon and after reading them all I decided to go with it....so we'll see how it goes.

I'll be back...

[caption id="attachment_1613" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Before...[/caption]

Okay, haha so I'm really impressed that the stylist I found, Lea, didn't: One- tell me to leave or Two- smack me right out of her chair. Now I remember why I quit doing hair...people like me! Oh my gosh, I was annoyed with myself! haha Well, she did a great job and really took her time with me. She sat down in a chair next to me and did the consultation instead of standing behind me looking at me in a mirror, that really helped ease me. She gave me the hairs-cut I didn't even know I wanted!! She did a really great job and I was glad I spent the time reading the reviews on Kudzu and making the appointment with her. I believe you get what you pay for and at $35 for this hairs-cut, I got a major Ganga!

Thank you to Lea @ Tangelz in Lawrenceville, GA. You were awesome!

Happy Birthday Roxy Love!

Okay this post is a big Happy Birthday to my late baby girl Roxy Love, she would have been 13 today. Even though she is not physically with me...well kind of, more on that in a sec...she's with me EVERY single day in spirit. Since the day I got her ashes back (about a week after she passed) I have had them in a memorial box. She passed May 10, 2009, three years ago. I have not been able to let go until recently. Even though we have Savannah, Roxy was very much her own dog and will never be able to be replaced, but yet I still could not let go. I decided, before we left the cabin, that it was time to send her off properly. I thought it would be super neat for her to come along with us on our journey and everywhere we go that means something to us, to do a small celebration of her life and spread her ashes wherever that spot may be. So far she has a spot under the treehouse we built and will be blowing in the wind tomorrow before we leave Liz's. I think it's time and this is the right way to do it. If she were still here, she would be coming with us anyway so it's just perfect. So today is for her, my sweet 13 year old who had the most beautiful spirit of anything I've ever known.

I dedicate our adventure to her and will remember her spirit and undying love for me until the day we meet again on Rainbow Bridge.

I love you Roxy Love

Love, Mama

PEACE BE WITH YOU BABY GIRL!

We're getting there, we're getting there!

We are finally getting on with it here...phew! haha We have accomplished so much while being here at the "sisil's". Everything we needed to get done has been checked off the list and even the things that were added on late have also been checked off. We ordered another 'house' battery from GoalZero along with some cords/wires, everything is charged and in working order. We use the GoalZero battery for all electronics; computers, phone, camera, fans, pretty much anything you need to plug in. How we do it is, we have a GoalZero battery (now two), that looks similar to a car battery. This is now our 'electric bill'. We use the juice from the GoalZero to charge up all the stuff we need. When we need to charge the GZ battery, we plug that into our inverter (which we turn on while driving so we don't run Joon Van's battery down)... we definitely have to make sure we turn it off though, we don't need the van dying on us. That actually happened the other day, not because of this but because J' had been doing some work on our radio (it was making a buzzing noise that was driving him up a wall) and while he was working on the wires of the radio a fuse blew for the back lights, the interior lights and the reminder buzzer for the lights. We went to the mall and when we came out, Joon was dead... we forgot to turn the lights off, since there was no buzzer. Luckily, J' waved down a nice man and it took all of three minutes to get us going again. And thankfully (although it was a rainy, overcast day) the fan was still running on our Nanna Bug due to the GZ battery. HOORAY FOR GOALZERO!! haha

[caption id="attachment_1628" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Our new electricity[/caption]

We also decided since we had the time and the space that we needed to paint the inside of Joon. With the wood not being painted you can see every footprint and paw print that we make and it just looks plain dirty and for those that know me, dirt & I DO NOT play nice together. With it being painted we can wipe it down and not have to see dirt everywhere! We went to Home Depot and gathered all of our supplies and started on it yesterday. We sanded her down, filled in some holes (naturally from the wood and from screws) and primed it. It looks so pretty!

[caption id="attachment_1630" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Fillin' in holes. Goodbye paw prints![/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1631" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Look at that hand go! The Sand (wo)Man[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1632" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Sitting in our 'living' room, haha[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1633" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Primed and ready for paint[/caption]

We were worried, with the weather being rainy and chilly, that everything might not dry evenly... BUT everything dried and we were able to paint today. More pictures and updates on some other new things we did for our Joon Van tomorrow.

Your body is a temple, not a tent!

We all need exercise, right! We have been able to get in some walks at a nearby park. It's a super nice park and totally huge. You could probably walk a new part of this park every single time you come here and never reach the spot you started in...well at least for a while! It's pretty big. It's called Tribble Mill Park. They have walking & biking trails and even an Equestrian area and trails for the horses as well. One big question we have is, why do people have to pick up dog poo, but other people don't have to pick up their step-in-up-to-your-ankle horse crap!??? Just wondering. Anyway, we have tried to pick a different trail every time we go but the other day Liz asked us if we had been to the rocks.... nope. So where do you think we went? NO, not bowling, what is it with you? haha Yes, we went to the rocks. I was expecting rocks that you climb on. This was pretty cool. They are actually the same rock as Stone Mountain. There were even points where water was coming out of the rock. Here are pics so I don't have to try to describe it ...

[caption id="attachment_1636" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The water flows down into a waterfall[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1642" align="aligncenter" width="300"] A 360* Panaromic View[/caption]

If you're ever around the area, stop by the rocks. It's a very majestic place tucked away in the woods where you can do yoga, meditate, get a little sunshine or just slide down the rocks and go for a swim. Cute little place and be careful those rocks are slippery!!
